Moodle 2 Preview release

So here we have it. The Moodle 2.0 Preview 1 release has happened! But on question has to be “What is a preview release”?

To quote the release notes:

The current version of Moodle 2.0 is getting to the point where we are feeling comfortable inviting experienced Moodle users to try it out and start banging on it and giving us more detailed feedback.

So in short, although this is not the finished polished fully tested end product it is at the point where people can play, and from the comments on twitter and skype today thats exactly what is happening.

So how can you test it? How can you try it out?

Well, you can download and use the current versions of 2.0 on your own server if you have the technical skills or resources, but if you dont have the resources do not worry. Moodle has a test site set up with the latest codebase here

What happens if I find something that isnt working or needs improvement?

Moodle suggests that you follow some simple steps.

  1. Search the Tracker for an existing issue, and make a new one if required
  2. Post a description of the issues, and using the mockup tool there to describe solutions
  3. Start a discussion about the bug in the Usability forum, linking to your issue by mentioning the bug ID, and make some noise 🙂

So what are you waiting for? head over the to QA site now, and start playing!
